Camerata Fiorentina

Sunday 11 April, 3pm - 4pm

Following Bardi’s letter advocating the new ‘stille raprasentativo’ - a style of singing flourishing in early 17th-centuy Italy, this programme will present an exciting insight into music-making that sparked a revolution in compositional techniques in Europe. The programme shows the contrast between 'Stille Antico' (a style of music from the 16th through to the 20th century and commonly reserved for composing sacred music) and 'Stille Raprasentativo' and how some instrumental music derived from vocal works, while others developed their own narrative language idiomatic to the instruments they were composed for. Featuring Handel House Ensemble-in-Residence Spirituoso.

Selma e Salaverde, Spadi and Rogniono in the 'Stille Antico'
Falconiero and Bassano in a transitional 'Style Fontana'
Frescobaldi, Cima and Castello exploring the 'Stille Raprasentativo'
